Saw someone argue that opposing AI art is ableist because this is the only way for some disabled people to make art afjagjsfh. Disabled people have been making art since the dawn of time and because making art is so varied there will always be tons of ways to create despite disability that doesn’t involve ripping artists off by using AI art

alright im reblogging this with zero hope or care of convincing the original OP but hey maybe someone else will see this shit, but like, given that i follow someone who is 1) physically disabled and 2) uses AI to make art in ways they couldnt before and has received fuckin death threats over this stupid ass discourse i have to say its just fucking tiring how easily people, even people i generally expect to know better, to act better, to trot out this tired ass “lol [x] thing someone is using to accommodate their disability is so stupid because other disabled people have struggled better and more virtuously”
even setting aside the lack of understanding from people on how AI art actually functions, how these training sets are utilized (and destroyed in the final product of a given art AI, an art AI does not store the images it was trained on to cut and paste bits from), do you not see any issue with the fuckin mental leaps to go from “some disabled people have talked about how they use AI art to make art in ways they couldnt before” and then reframe the argument as solely non-disabled people saying “criticizing AI art is ableist” to make it sound more ridiculous, and then further trying to separate the two by goin on abt how brave disabled people are for not getting at these annoying people every day?
like come on you have to, if nothing else, even if you disagree with me or others on AI art, see the very obvious rhetorical framing thats going on here right?
also—and this is arguably a more basic point than “it’s ableist to expect disabled people to suffer Correctly and Virtuously,” but it’s one that some people are still somehow ignorant of—disabled people are disabled differently from each other, and some people are more severely disabled than others!
saying “x person trained themselves to paint with their feet, therefore every disabled person ought to do so” completely ignores that some disabled people lack mobility in their arms and legs/feet… so… this is awkward… what now…
